Ontario is the most populated province in Canada and the third largest in terms of land. There are so many places to explore so we’re here to help you find the best family campgrounds in Ontario to do so!

We travelled through the province twice back when we had our first RV and so we were able to test many RV parks. This time around we also started in Ontario and we were able to test a few more RV parks that we hadn’t stayed at before.

It’s not always easy to know which campgrounds to choose apart from looking at Google reviews which sometimes are not so helpful when there are opposite reviews for the same place!

So instead of giving you a list of well rated family campgrounds in Ontario, we’ve narrowed down the best ones that we stayed at with our RV in the last few years.

This list is in geographical order, from Eastern Ontario to Western Ontario.

Open times are for the year 2024 but post will be updated if any changes occur in the future years.

We hope it will be useful to help you plan your next family RV trip in Ontario.

Best Family Campgrounds in Ontario: East of Toronto

Going camping to a family campground in Ontario is the best option when you have children. There are many campgrounds who might not have any amenities for them so we’re here to help you find the right one for your family!

1. Wesley Clover Parks Campground

Located in: Ottawa
Opening months: May 3rd to October 15th 2024

Date of our stay: one week in July 2021

This campground mostly offers sites with electricity and water and can easily accommodate RVs up to 45 feet. There is a dump station in the campground that is free to all campers. You’ll also be able to find a laundromat as well as shower facilities and flush toilets however we did not use those.

For children and families: there is a small playground which our daughter liked. In the summer there is also a forest and nature school located in the campground which we thought was a great bonus!

What we liked:
It is nestled among the trees and even though it is pretty close to the highway, we were not bothered by the noise.

What to do near Wesley Clover Parks Campground?
It is the closest campground to downtown Ottawa (15-20 minutes by car) so it’s the perfect place to camp if you want to travel to the capital city of Canada with your family in an RV:

  • Parliament Hill

  • Ottawa Arboretum
  • Tulip festival in May

2. Beavermead Park

Beavermead Park Peterborough | Best family campgrounds in Ontario

Located in: Peterborough
Opening months: May 10th to October 13th 2024

Date of our stay: October 2022

A beautiful well rated campground located close to Peterborough centre. It is surrounded by trees and part of the Otonabee Conservation area. Right on Little lake, there is a beach for the summer months.

It was our first RV park with our new travel trailer and we really liked it.

The RV park has 77 serviced campsites with 30 or 50 amp electricity and water. No sewers on the sites but there is a dump station in the campground.

You will also find a comfort station which offers showers and washrooms. We used the latter and they were very clean. There is also a small laundry room with one washing machine and one dryer. It is not much but it was good to have the option there and we used it once. Pay by card which was handy!

For children and families: there is a playground in the park which is 5 minutes walk from the sites and as said above a beach in the summer.

What we liked:
Being among the trees when they had their fall colours, it was beautiful to see. The busy road nearby wasn’t a nuisance for us.
